City of Byron, IL USA (population 3,865) welcomes you to the community on the "Gateway to the Rock River Valley". Byron is a modern urban community with a friendly rural character. Byron is attractive to new businesses and residents because of its proximity to all that big cities have to offer, but maintains its small town feel. We are known for our award winning golf course, beautiful river front, and excellent schools. We are located in Northern Illinois along the Rock River, 88 miles west of Chicago and 12 miles south of Rockford. With its surrounding beauty and friendly people, Byron is a wonderful place to live and work.
The City of Byron is governed by a Mayor/Council form of government. The City Council has eight members, two from each ward, who are elected by the voters of that ward. The City Council is responsible for determining City policy. The Mayor is elected by the entire community.
Administration is the hub of City Hall. City staff supports the Mayor and Aldermen in research, preparation and distribution of documents, including information for the Aldermen on meetings. Staff receives requests for service from residents, assigns requests to appropriate departments then follows through to its resolution. Administration staff is always available to lend assistance as needed to the citizens of Byron.

The City’s Building and Zoning Department oversees land use and development within the city limits. They issue various building and zoning permits.
The City’s Zoning Board and the Plan Commission help to assure that development occurs in an orderly manner. They monitor the City’s long term plans for development and try to assure that individual projects do not impair the eventual fulfillment of these planning goals.
Bunger's Beer N' Bull Steakhouse, located on the corner of Second Street and Union, is owned and operated by Bob and Julie Bunger. The steak house opened in January, 2007, and offers a delectable menu with a good ol' country charm setting.
The new Classics and Colonial Building, located on IL Rt. 2, will potentially house nine tenants. Two businesses currently call Classics and Colonial home: Three Sisters Cafe & Catering and Ogle County Physical Therapy.
