Small town living near it all

Dixon, California, in Solano county, is 8 miles SW of Davis, California (center to center) and 20 miles SW of Sacramento, California. Dixon is part of the surrounding Vallejo - Fairfield - Napa metro area. Dixon was earlier known as "Silveyville." This name was given to the area by the white settlers, after Elijah S. Silvey. When the California Pacific Railroad reached it on August 28, 1868, Thomas Dickson, a wealthy rancher, donated 10 acres of land near the California Pacific Railroad line for the development of a town site and train station. The depot was named Dickson Station but was later changed to "Dixon" after the first batch of goods arrived by rail with a misspelled address. The Dixon city was incorporated in the year 1878 and is today the hub for miles of grain alfalfa and dairy farming. Dixon also has a long history in the sheep industry and today hosts an annual sheep festival known as Lamb Town. Dixon also hosts the May Fair, which is the oldest state fair in California.
